Come AND Trust Again

5 min read

Often we talk about trusting God as if it is a one-time decision. But seasons will come when we choose to trust Him again, again, and again.

Again after disappointment.

Again after the prayer was not answered the way we hoped.

Again after people let us down.

Again when we thought we understood what God was doing, and then everything changed.

There are seasons when it will be difficult to trust God.

As I continue to apply for jobs daily, I receive rejections daily. The rejections hurt. They are disappointing because after two months of job searching, there have been so many rejections, so much silence, and so much waiting.

There are days I wake up crying or go to bed crying. Some days I do both.

This is my reality.

Butttt… I am reminded of another reality: God sees me and He hears me.

He is inviting me—and you—to draw closer to Him, to trust Him, and to trust His plan.

If I am being honest, some days frustration overrides trust. Some days the negative thoughts override trust.

But as I continue to read His Word and continue to pray, I begin to trust again.

Sometimes, a season of trusting again will mean choosing to trust Him every day.

Trusting God again does not mean we will not experience disappointment.

We will have moments when we cry, become frustrated, question what is happening, and wonder when things will change.

Sometimes we pray, believe, and wait, only to find ourselves facing another disappointment.

And honestly, that makes it difficult to keep trusting.

There may be moments when you begin to question yourself.

Am I qualified?

Did I do something wrong?

Why has nothing happened yet?

God, when?

But what is happening around us does not change who God is.

He is still God when the answer is yes.

He is still God when the answer is no.

He is still God when the answer is not yet.

So what do we do when we are disappointed and still waiting?

We keep going back to God.

We pray.

We read His Word.

We remind ourselves of what He has already done.

We remind ourselves of who He is.

And when our thoughts start telling us that nothing will ever change, we bring those thoughts back to Him too.

We do not have to always pretend that everything is okay. We can bring our disappointment to God and still choose to trust Him.

We can tell Him that we are hurt.

We can tell Him that we are frustrated.

We can tell Him that we do not understand.

And then we can say, “God, I still trust You.”

God's Word always helps me to trust Him again.

When I am disappointed, I cannot allow my feelings to be the only thing guiding me. My feelings are real, but they are not always the truth.

I have to go back to what I know about God.

Proverbs 3:5–6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”

I love this Scripture because it does not tell us that we will understand everything. In fact, it tells us not to lean on our own understanding.

There will be things we do not understand.

There will be situations that do not make sense.

There will be moments when we cannot see how things are going to work out.

That is where trust comes in.

I may not understand what God is doing, but I can trust Him.

I may not understand why something happened, but I can trust Him.

I may not know what is coming next, but I can trust Him.

Trusting God again means continuing to pray, continuing to hope, and continuing to believe in Him even when I do not see the outcome I am praying for.

I still pray for the job. I still pray for my family. I still pray for healing, restoration, provision, direction, and the things I am believing God for.

I still hope.

I still believe that things will change.

I still believe that God will answer my prayers in ways that I cannot see right now.

Sometimes I want to know exactly what God is doing. I want to know when things will change. I want to know what is coming next. I want to understand why I am going through what I am going through.

But trusting God means believing that I do not need to know all of the answers to trust Him.

Maybe that is part of what trusting God again looks like.

Trusting Him when I do not have the answers.

Trusting Him when I cannot see what is ahead.

Trusting Him when the circumstances have not changed.

I do not stop hoping.

I do not stop praying.

I remember who I am praying to.

And I choose to trust Him again.

Maybe you understand.

Maybe your disappointment looks different from mine.

Maybe you are dealing with grief, heartbreak, financial problems, family relationships, disappointment, uncertainty, or simply not knowing what comes next.

Maybe you are waiting for a door to open.

Maybe you are trying to understand why a door closed.

Maybe you are tired of waiting, tired of praying, or simply tired.

Whatever your situation looks like, you may find yourself in a season where you are choosing, again and again and again, to trust God.

There may be days when trusting God feels easier than others.

There may be days when we feel full of faith, and there may be days when we are struggling to hold onto hope.

But God is still there.

He is still listening.

He is still present.

He is still faithful.

And He is still worthy of our trust.

So if you are in a season of trusting God again, know that you are not alone.

Keep praying.

Keep hoping.

Keep believing.

Keep bringing your questions, your disappointment, your tears, and your uncertainty to God.

And when you find yourself struggling to trust, remember that you can choose to trust Him again.

Again after disappointment.

Again after heartbreak

.Again when the answer is not yet.

Again when you do not understand.

Again when you cannot see what is ahead.

Choose to trust Him again. And again. And again.

Because whatever this season looks like, God is still God.

And He is still restoring our souls.

Reflection

Take a moment to remind yourself of who God is, what He has already done, and what you know to be true about Him, even when you do not understand what He is doing.

What do I need to bring to God today so that I can begin to trust Him again?

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for reminding me that I can come back to You again and again.

You know the places where I am disappointed. You know the things I have prayed about, the things I am waiting for, and the things I do not understand.

You know when I am frustrated. You know when I am tired. You know when my thoughts begin to overwhelm me and when my faith feels stronger one day than it does the next.

When I do not understand, help me trust You. When I cannot see what is ahead, help me trust You again.

When the circumstances have not changed, help me trust You again.

When disappointment comes, help me trust You again.

Remind me of who You are when I forget.

Help me to keep praying.

Help me to keep hoping.

Help me to keep believing.

And when I find myself struggling to trust, remind me that I can come back to You again.

Thank You for inviting me closer instead of pushing me away.

I choose to trust You again. And again. And again.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

HIS LOVE and MINE,

Shemeca
